Jaywalk 2014

I’ve finally done it!!! Yaaaaay

I have been wanting to enter a Tessuti fabrics competition for ages and I have finally got my bum into gear and sent off my entry.

Its called the Jaywalk 2014 because thats the name of the fabric chosen by Tessuti that everyone has to use but, we get to make whatever we want with it and as its a chilly winter we are having in Melbourne I chose something long sleeved that I can layer up under (as in thermals brrrr!!).

Here it is………..

I didn’t use a purchased pattern for this one, its one I drafted. It was a fairly easy sew up but it requires lots of concentration when cutting it out because all of the stripes have to be matched up. I used an elastic binding from Tessuti’s for the neck and arm hems. It was really easy to pin on and sew, I am not very good at hemming knit fabrics so I usually make some bias binding out of the same fabric, but as I left this to the last minute the purchased elastic was a really good option.
The skirt part I lined with some scrap wool jersey left over from another project that I had kept in the stash. I often wonder why the heck I keep all of those precious offcuts but sometimes those bits and pieces do come in handy!!
I’m pretty happy with how this turned out and very excited about having something made by me up on the Tessuti Pinterest board!!
