Here it is!! The much awaited bomber jacket for the little madam. Its made from a beautiful checked wool coating from the Fabric Store and lined with some t-shirt jersey from Spotlight. This one has been a long time in the making, she picked the fabric last winter in the Fabric store sale and it has taken me ages to source the bomber ribbing for the waistband and cuffs. I tried everywhere I know but nobody seems to stock it in a bricks and mortar shop. I did have a bit of a look online but there were a few variations and I didn’t know which to choose. So, I asked my friend Guiseppe who works for a textiles company and he found me some! Guiseppe to the rescue!!
Anyway, I used a Burdastyle magazine pattern from March 2013, though I changed it quite a bit. I added a hood from burda kids 9482 pattern. I had to make the hood a little larger to fit the neck of the jacket. I also sized it up by two centimetres on the side seams and shoulder seams because the fabric was so bulky, to allow for a jumper to be worn under. I also added a flap to the front to cover the zip (zips can be draughty) and if I’m honest I really just wanted an excuse to add some lovely toggles!! The wool is a little scratchy so I didn’t make a facing I just lined it right up to the edge of the zip and collar. I think the collar would have looked better if it was self-faced but when its done up it would be itchy on the chin and madam would not have been impressed with that! For the eagle eyed ones out there that noticed the absence of a button hole, I have sewn a button on the collar but no button hole to match. My machine had a spaz while I was trying to do this (it wouldn’t feed properly) and I really wanted to get this gorgeous jacket photographed and on the blog cause I’m just so darn proud of it. So keen in fact that we took these photos under a tree because it started to rain on us!! Apologies for the poor light.
A new jacket just isnt the same without a secret pocket in the lining. “Eeeeeekkk” she said, I think it was the thing she was most excited about.
